Sceye establishes its European base in Teruel

The aerospace company Sceye has taken a decisive step in its establishment in Spain with the commencement of construction works on its hangar and production facility at Teruel Airport. The symbolic first-stone laying ceremony took place last March and marks the beginning of an investment of almost forty million euros, awarded to the joint venture formed by Aldesa Construcciones and Ideconsa. The project comprises a hangar of more than 27,000 square metres and 57 metres in height, with a main door seventy metres wide that will allow stratospheric airships to be housed and operated. The works are expected to be completed in the final quarter of 2026, at which point Sceye plans to allocate approximately five million additional euros to equip the facility with the systems required for the manufacture and maintenance of aircraft. Although the Teruel hangar is still under construction, the company has already conducted stratospheric flights from its base in Roswell, in the United States, reaching altitudes of close to twenty kilometres. These tests confirm the viability of its technology, which is aimed at applications in Earth observation, telecommunications and environmental monitoring from the stratosphere. At present there is no evidence that an airship has been manufactured or tested in Teruel, as activity in Spain is focused on infrastructure. The expectation is that, once the hangar is completed, Teruel Airport will become the first European base for the production and operation of these high-altitude aircraft, with an economic impact that could exceed two hundred direct jobs in the region.
